Vancouver’s newest housing co-op now open in Olympic Village

Vancouver’s newest housing co-op opened Monday in the Olympic Village, bringing an additional 135 units to market.

The 15-storey Railyard Housing Co-op was developed by Concert Properties as part of its “The Creek” market condominium development.

The co-op is targeting a mix of tenants, from singles and couples to families with children. There are 44 two-bedroom and 29-three bedroom suites, with the rest of the building being a mix of one-bedroom and studio suites.

The Co-operative Housing Federation of BC (CHF BC) says more than half of the co-op’s suites will be affordable to households with annual incomes between $25,000 and $55,000.

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson was in attendance at Monday’s opening.

“This type of family-oriented co-op housing in Olympic Village helps us tackle Vancouver’s affordability crisis, especially for families struggling to find long-term rental homes within their means,” said Robertson.

Unfortunately for prospective tenants looking to secure a place in the new building, the pre-registration list to apply to the new co-op filled up quickly and applications are not currently being accepted.
