Davie Street Safeway to become rental apartments

Attention shoppers! New rental apartments coming to Davie Street Safeway site

A new Safeway store is coming to Davie Street in Vancouver’s West End. Westbank is planning to redevelop the current grocery store into a two tower rental apartment development with a new Safeway store and liquor store in the podium.

The redevelopment looks similar to Westbank’s project at Granville and 70th, which also replaced an aging Safeway with a brand new store in the podium of a residential tower.

Westbank’s proposal for the Davie Street Safeway calls for a three storey podium of retail, two market rental towers with 319 units and three levels of underground parking.

Here’s the current look of the site:

No word yet on whether or not this new Safeway store will be branded as a Safeway or Sobeys. Sobeys purchased Safeway Canada in December 2013.
