A unique new office building at Yukon St. and West 7th Ave. will be constructed in less than four weeks using sustainable, prefabricated panels.
The four-storey building at 2250 Yukon Street will be home to Fast+Epp structural engineers. It will replace the Wilf’s Transmissions building, next to 3 Vets.
The building will feature open office space; construction space for the firm’s scale models; software manufacturing space and amenity space for employees. There will be one level of underground parking.
Fast+Epp has been perfecting prefabricated hybrid timber-steel panels for the past 25 years. The floor and roof of the building will be constructed of the panels, which contain fully-integrated mechanical and electrical systems.
The building’s mechanical systems will operate on geothermal heating and cooling, eliminating the need for unsightly rooftop mechanical boxes. Interestingly, the building will also serve as “living lab” for the firm, and floor and seismic vibrations will be measured during the occupancy.
Fast+Epp was involved in the design of Tallwood House at UBC, the tallest hybrid timber structure in the world. The 17-storey structure opened last month and will be home to more than 400 students.
