Days numbered for Shell gas station at West Broadway and Arbutus

Vancouver’s west side could soon lose another gas station.

A 11-storey building is slated to replace the Shell gas station at the corner of West Broadway and Arbutus Street.

The property where the gas station sits is highly desirable, as it’s kitty corner to a future SkyTrain station on the Millennium Line extension from VCC-Clark to Arbutus. Eventually the line will be extended all the way to UBC.

No formal rezoning or development application has been filed yet, but Bastion Development Corporation is calling the new building “Cassis.”

A post on the developer’s website says “Cassis is one of the few potential development sites ideally located in the heart of Kitsilano surrounded by superb shopping, dining, cultural destinations, popular beaches, the new Arbutus Greenway and more.”

The architect is Francl Architecture, the same firm which designed Second + Main, at East 2nd and Main Street, on the former site of Maynards.
