Tsawwassen Mills now open: photos, tour, store list, hours

The sprawling Tsawwassen Mills shopping centre opened last month on First Nations land near the ferry terminal, and offers something for everyone.

The indoor mall covers 1.2 million square feet and will have over 200 stores once fully leased. There is also a 1,100 seat food court and children’s play area.

Half of the stores are outlets, and there are 18 “first-to-market” retailers including Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse, Pro Hockey Life, Saks Off 5th, The Outlet by Harry Rosen, Michael Kors Outlet, lululemon athletica outlet, Browns Outlet and more.

Other stores include Forever 21, H&M, Winners, Marshalls, Nike Factory Store, West 49, Old Navy and Pro Hockey Life.

Getting to the mall is a bit of a journey if you’re coming from Vancouver. The best route to avoid traffic congestion coming from Vancouver or Richmond is to take the “back way” — meaning take Deltaport Way off 17A, Arthur Drive, 53 St, 52 St, and onto Canoe Pass Way. Downtown Vancouver to the mall took about 40 minutes driving time on a weekend.

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World

The largest anchor in the mall is the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, which could be described as part-theme park, part-outdoor enthusiast’s dream store.

The 150,000 square feet store has impressive towering aquariums, taxidermy throughout the store, large murals, as well as an on-site bar and restaurant with a bowling alley. It’s the chain’s sixth store in Canada and first in B.C., and is worth the visit on its own.

First Nations partnered with developer

Ivanhoé Cambridge partnered with the Tsawwassen First Nation to develop the mall, at a cost of $600 million. Local artisans from the First Nation also designed several of the art pieces inside the shopping centre.

Ivanhoé Cambridge says the mall is within a 30-45 minute drive for 2.5 million people in the Lower Mainland. The mall is also targeting shoppers on Vancouver Island and south of the border.
