An 11-storey luxury condominium tower is slated to replace a three-storey apartment building at 1150 Barclay Street in the West End.
Shermanor Apartments is an equity co-op, and was built in 1948. The 19-suite building is in pristine condition, however, the site’s RM-5B zoning allows for additional density. It was recently sold by Lee & Associates.
PC Urban is proposing the luxury concrete condominium tower with three townhouse units at grade, and 18 units in the tower above.
The developer says it expects the development to attract downsizers looking for an alternative to large highrise tower developments.
Completion of the new tower is slated for the summer of 2020.
The relatively small development is the latest luxury project proposed for the West End. A similar boutique condo building is proposed for a surface parking lot on Burnaby Street next to the Milano condo tower.
Davie Street west of Jervis is changing rapidly, with several rental apartment and condominium towers under construction.
Developments include The Jervis by Intracorp, a luxury condominium tower designed in collaboration with Inform Interiors; Westbank’s two-tower rental apartment project on the former site of Safeway; rentals at the Gabriola Mansion; a tower proposal by Vivagrand and more.
Construction on another Westbank rental apartment tower, on Pendrell Street near Denman is also underway. The development will include 26 affordable rental units at the base of the building.
