A 29-storey tower with park and community amenity space is proposed for the corner of Agnes Street and Blackie Street in downtown New Westminster.
The rezoning application for the tower at 810 Agnes Street went before New Westminster city council Monday. The developer, Jago Development Inc., is proposing 222 residential units, 25 of which will be three bedrooms. There will also be 72 two-bedroom units.
There will be 270 stalls in the parking garage, some of which is above grade, a common site in New Westminster given the city’s steep hills.
Amenities for residents will include a fitness centre; music, study, meeting and lounge areas; and a media and great room. There will be corresponding outdoor amenity areas adjacent to all three indoor amenity spaces.
The architect of the tower is IBI, and the landscape architecture firm is Hapa Collaborative.
Public benefits include new park, public amenity space
The development is adjacent to a city-owned property at 824 Agnes Street, which will be developed into a new public park. It’s currently used as an off-leash dog area, which will be relocated nearby, pending a public consultation process.
As part of the proposal, the developer will provide approximately 3,500 sq ft. of indoor community amenity space adjacent to the new park, and will transfer ownership to the city upon completion.
