The six finalists in the City of Vancouver’s bike rack design competition have been revealed, with winning designs to be installed this fall.
Designs must hold at least two bikes; be cost-effective to fabricate and install; and reflect Vancouver in an original and creative way.
Over 400 submissions were received, and narrowed down to a shortlist of 30 designs. The final six finalist designs will be prototyped and put on display throughout the city next week, where the public can vote for their favourites.
Winners will receive a cash prize of $2,000. The six finalists are as follows:
North Shore Mountains
This design can work as one rack, or two to create the illusion of a playful mountain range.
The Guard Bird
The Guard Bird can hold two bikes, and keeps an eye on your bike through its playful goggles.
Chickadee-dee-dee
The bike rack is mounted to the ground with chickadee-inspired feet and features multiple locking locations.
Petal rack
The petal rack is simple and practical, and is inspired by B.C.’s ecofriendly lifestyle.
Definitely raining
It’s definitely raining — this bike rack claims to predict the weather with over 50 per cent accuracy.
Living leaf
“Living Leaf” was designed to reflect Vancouver’s aspiration to become one of the greenest cities of the world.
