Two non-market housing buildings proposed for Downtown Eastside

Two proposed non-market housing developments in the Downtown Eastside will add a total 75 new units to the neighbourhood around Oppenheimer Park.

DYS Architecture has designed a six-storey building for the Lookout Housing and Health Society at 545 East Cordova Street, across from the Union Gospel Mission recovery centre, which will soon be redeveloped and upgraded.

The narrow building will contain 20 social housing rental units. The façade will be made up of a concrete cementitious cladding system with yellow accents.

One block away on Powell Street, Boni-Maddison Architects has designed a six-storey building for the Ming Sun Benevolent Society, to be operated by S.U.C.C.E.S.S.

The new building will contain 55 social housing units and ground floor retail space, and replace an uninhabitable building currently on the site. The ground floor will be clad in stone with upper levels clad in brick.
