Capilano University announces new campus at The Shipyards

Capilano University announced Tuesday they will open a new branch campus at The Shipyards in Lower Lonsdale in August 2019.

Capilano University will occupy the second floor of 125 Victory Ship Way, designed by DIALOG. The space features 15 ft. high ceilings and a 60 ft. long balcony.

All five of Capilano University’s faculties (Business & Professional Studies; Fine & Applied Arts; Arts & Sciences; Education, Health & Human Development; and Global & Community Studies) will be represented at the new branch campus.

The Continuing Studies & Executive Education programs will be fully relocated to the new branch campus to help make the evening and weekend courses more accessible to students from across the Lower Mainland.

“CapU Lonsdale represents an exceptional opportunity for us to broaden our outreach and community contributions, strengthen local connections and provide a strong selection of our programming in a central location on the North Shore,” said Paul Dangerfield, president of Capilano University.

Capilano University says the expansion to The Shipyards will also help free up capacity at the main campus on Purcell Way. Over 10,000 students are enrolled each year at CapU and the university offers 95 programs.

The Shipyards includes 84,000 square feet of mixed-use commercial and community amenity space, including a new boutique waterfront hotel to be operated by the Executive Group, in addition to a 12,000 sq ft. outdoor ice surface and an 8,000 sq ft. water play area.

There is weather protection over the entire open space, complete with a retractable portion to allow for an open water play area in summer months.

Confirmed tenants at The Shipyards include:

  • Executive Hotels & Resorts
  • Method Indoor Cycling
  • Nook Restaurant
  • JOEY Restaurant
