The pace of change in Mount Pleasant’s industrial area, sandwiched between Main and Cambie, continues to accelerate. Aging industrial buildings are being replaced by sleek, new buildings combining light industrial and office space, often in a strata ownership model.
The latest development proposal is at 205 West 5th Avenue, designed by Mallen Gowing Berzins Architecture, Inc. (MGBA) for Rendition Developments Inc.
A four-storey building with manufacturing on the first and second floors, and office uses on the third and fourth floors is proposed. It will replace a small, two-storey building which is currently vacant, and was recently listed for sale by Avison Young.
The new building will also include 30 parking spaces. The architect says the surrounding street trees were a driving force in the design of the building.
The façade features extensive use of glass and shading structures to highlight the building’s design and its relationship with the trees.
