Donald Trump may be one of the most unpopular people in the world right now, but that hasn’t impacted the progress of a hotel and condo tower in downtown Vancouver bearing his name.
The luxury, 63 storey Trump International Hotel and Tower skyscraper is right on schedule to open this summer, with units selling for an average of $1,600/sq ft., the highest rate in Canada, according to the Huffington Post.
The building is being developed by Vancouver-based Holborn Properties, with the Trump organization in charge of managing the hotel on the lower floors. The branding was licensed for the the building several years ago, before Donald Trump’s run for the White House.
Controversy about Trump’s comments on Mexicans and Muslims during his presidential campaign run have led to calls, including from Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, for Trump’s name to be stripped from the project.
But as you can see from the images below, the Trump name is on the project, loud and proud, and perhaps even bolder than anticipated. In fact, there’s likely to be a job posting soon just to keep these giant chrome letters shiny.
