Onni Group is preparing to move ahead with phase two of Gilmore Place in Burnaby’s Brentwood neighbourhood.
The second phase of the development, next to the Gilmore SkyTrain station, includes two residential towers, and a 37-storey office tower, designed by IBI Group.
The tower will have 695,614 sq ft. of office space, in addition to 165,000 sq. ft. of office space in phase one of the development.
Site preparation for phase one, which will include the tallest residential tower in Western Canada, is currently underway.
There will be 787 underground vehicle parking stalls, and the office tower will include end-of-trip facilities for cyclists including change rooms, showers and lockers.
The development will feature a high-quality public realm, including plazas, pedestrian connections and a new, publicly accessible road between Lougheed Highway and Dawson Street.
Onni Group is pursuing a LEED-ND (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – Neighbourhood Development) Gold rating or equivalent for the entire site, as well as a district energy system.
Documents from the City of Burnaby state that the creation of town centres at Metrotown, Brentwood, Edmonds and Lougheed “have served the city well in protecting residential neighbourhoods from pressures to accommodate new growth, and have also allowed the city to preserve a significant component of its land base for park and open space.”
The town centres have also attracted significant interest and investment from developers, with major redevelopment projects under construction across Burnaby, adding thousands of homes, retail and office space.
