The City of Vancouver’s affordable housing agency is planning a 26-storey tower and a six-storey midrise in the River District.
VAHA (Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency) and the Community Land Trust have partnered on the upcoming project at Sawmill Crescent and Marine Way.
The development will bring 337 rental units to the market, with 36 per cent of the units suitable for families. Approximately half of the homes will be operated by M’akola Housing Society, with a focus on serving an Indigenous population. The remaining homes will operate as a new co-operative.
Two levels of parking with 173 stalls is proposed, as well as 633 bicycle parking spaces.
The tower and midrise will be clad in maroon/dark red corrugated metal panels, inspired by the rust patinas formerly found on the site, which was once a sawmill. Architecture is by GBL Architects.
