Plans to redevelop the Kerrisdale Lumber site are moving ahead, with the retailer set to move into its new location down the street.
Gryphon Development plans to develop around the 1930-built Stanley Ernest Peters (S.E.P.) Block, with the mission revival-style building seeing extensive restoration of its heritage elements on West Blvd. and West 45th Avenue.
A five-storey building with 64 residential units will sit on the south end of the site, giving the S.E.P. Block some breathing room. All but one of the units are two bedrooms or larger.
Top floor units in the development will have their own access to private rooftop decks. Amenities for residents will include a lounge, fitness centre and outdoor play area for children.
The ground floor will house several retail units, all over two levels of underground parking with 199 spaces.
The new building will feature stone cladding and dark bronze trim, described by Yamamoto Architecture as a “restrained and elegant colour palette.”
A community open house is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Kerrisdale Community Seniors Centre, 5851 West Boulevard (Multipurpose Room 100).
The development will then head to the Development Permit Board on Monday, December 9, 2019.
Kerrisdale Lumber opened in 1921 as a neighbourhood hardware store. The store will move into its new, 10,000 square feet “hardware, lifestyle and BBQ store” at 6300 West Boulevard in the Mckinnon Development by Cressey later this year.
