Fresh off their successful developments at Canvas and Block 100, Onni Group has applied to the City of Vancouver to develop a new four building complex next to the new Emily Carr University of Art and Design.
The development will include four buildings over a common underground parkade. There will be two live/work buildings of 13 and 15 storeys, one hotel at 15 storeys and one office building of seven storeys. All buildings will have retail at grade.
The architect says the inspiration for the colourful design came from the humble Rubik’s Cube. It’s also influenced by the proximity to the new Emily Carr University, and is said to draw influence from the built digital orca sculpture by Douglas Coupland outside the Vancouver Convention Centre.
The live/work units are likely to be popular with students and staff at the new Emily Carr University across the street. The location is also close to a potential future skytrain Station, should the Expo Line be extended along Broadway to UBC.
The application goes to the development permit board on October 31, 2016.
