Darwin Construction’s development in North Vancouver, which will see the replacement of the Harry Jerome Recreation Centre, continues to advance, with the announcement of new seniors housing.
The upcoming mixed-use neighbourhood, known as Lonsdale Square, will include a new Sunrise Senior Living Community, offering assisted living and “memory care” support — for those living with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
The new seniors’ home should be complete by 2022, with construction beginning later this year.
The need is great — North Vancouver is one of the fastest-growing and aging cities in Canada. It’s projected that one-in-four people in B.C. will be over 65 by 2031.
Once complete, Lonsdale Square will include the following:
- new Harry Jerome rec centre
- over 800 new homes, including below-market/market rental, non-profit housing and seniors assisted living
- over 90,000 sq ft. of strata retail and office space
- new city park connected to the city’s “Green Necklace” bike path
