Park Inn hotel redevelopment approved unanimously by city council

The redevelopment of the Park Inn hotel on West Broadway was approved unanimously by Vancouver city council Thursday.

The design, by Arno Matis Architecture, will dramatically remake the property.

It includes two mid-rise towers of 11 and 13 storeys over a three-storey podium.

There will be a total of 437 hotel units, 272 of which will be for traditional short-term stays. The remainder will be long-term suites with kitchenettes and some with bedrooms, ideal given the hotel’s proximity to VGH.

The top of the podium will be landscaped to provide open spaces for hotel use.

The seven-storey Park Inn is also home to a popular music venue, the Fairview Pub. Several respondents to the rezoning application expressed concern about the loss of the music venue. A pub space is included in the proposal, however it is undetermined at this time whether it will remain as the Fairview Pub.

Six levels of underground parking are proposed with a total of 487 stalls.

The existing hotel has 117 rooms and was built in 1971. It’s currently operated as the Park Inn & Suites by Radisson.
