The facility is the first of Cineplex’s amusement rec rooms in B.C., and is meant to help the company diversify beyond its core cinema business, which is facing intense competition from streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ and Crave. The company already has rec rooms in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, London, Mississauga, Toronto and St. John’s.

Construction is currently underway on the second B.C. location, on Granville Street in downtown Vancouver. The facility will be similar to the Burnaby location, but will also include a rooftop patio with views of downtown Vancouver and the entertainment district.

The Burnaby facility is located directly below the soon-to-open Cineplex VIP Cinemas Brentwood.

Post-pandemic, the facility will be able to accommodate up to 1,300 guests. The Burnaby location was supposed to have opened for business in 2020, but was delayed by the pandemic. It joins several new shops and services at The Amazing Brentwood, including a large food court, retailers such as H&M Home and Adidas, and more.
