$1.25 million price drop for Point Grey Road cube house

The “cube house,” a new, four-storey single family home on Point Grey Road has seen a price drop in the hopes of finding a buyer.

The home, which has been on the market for two months, was recently reduced from $14 million to $12.75 million.

The 2,280 sq. ft. home at 3691 Point Grey Road on Vancouver’s “golden mile” was designed by architect Tony Robins, who admits the boxy design — wrapped in dark metal sheathing — has been polarizing.

“Though unintended, this project has inspired much discussion for its uncompromising geometry and relationship to the neighbourhood. Mostly, the lack of windows upsets traditional notions of ‘house’ on the street,” Robins wrote on his website.

“In defence, this house has more glass facing the street than any other along Point Grey Road. The living, dining and kitchen areas are fully exposed to the neighbourhood.”

The home stands prominently on a corner lot at Point Grey Road and Alma Street, across from Hastings Mill Park and next to the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. The listing agent is Loren Dunsworth of Rennie & Associates Realty.

The home features a four-car underground garage with a laundry room, connected by a glass elevator through the home to the rooftop deck. On the rooftop, there’s a hot tub, BBQ, outdoor kitchen and outdoor shower, with spectacular views of downtown Vancouver.

The two bedrooms are located on the second floor, with their own laundry and private decks. On the ground floor, there is an open concept kitchen, dining and living room with a fireplace, all surrounded by floor to ceiling glass walls. There are a total of four bathrooms throughout the home.

The home is down the street from Lululemon founder Chip Wilson’s 15,694 square feet mansion, which was assessed earlier this year at $75.8 million. His home is the most valuable property in the province. Homes on the “Golden Mile” routinely sell for between $10 to $20 million, making brand-new “cube house” a relative bargain.
