A beautiful single-family home designed by Vancouver-based architect Peter Rose, on the University Endowment Lands next to UBC, is on the market.
The Acadia Road Residence is one of the most recognizable homes in the prestigious west side neighbourhood. It was built in 2010 by Keystone Projects.
The home, located at 1789 Acadia Road, is currently listed by realtor Sue Scott of Royal LePage Sussex for $11,980,000.
The 5,700 sq ft. home has five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. It features extensive millwork, coffered ceilings, Lutron lighting, a steam room and a fully-equipped chef’s kitchen. For music buffs, audio can be played throughout the home thanks to an integrated AV system.
A wood burning fireplace with a 3,000 lb stone surround is the focal point of the grand living room. The master suite has two walk-in closets and rain showers in the limestone-clad bathroom.
The home’s great room opens to a large patio with outdoor kitchen, surrounded by lush landscaped gardens on a 13,800 sq ft. lot.

Other exterior features include a heated driveway and garage for four cars, basketball hoop, copper gutters and chimney tops, as well as a sprinkler system.
Architect Peter Rose says the nautical-themed home was inspired by the residences of the northeastern U.S., particularly around Nantucket.
The home is defined by distinctive curving roofs, and a layered array of materials including shake, copper, stone and wood.
Rose said the home took five years from concept to completion, and that the owners wanted a modern interior with a traditional exterior.
“There is something about this house that people find so appealing,” said Rose. “It’s architecturally impressive, without being intimidating.”
