Q to Q ferry service launched between New West and Queensborough

A demonstration ferry service called the Q to Q has launched in New Westminster, transporting passengers from Quayside to Queensborough in less than five minutes.

The service officially opened this weekend and will run for the remainder of August and September, on weekends and holidays only. In August, the ferry will also run Friday evenings from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Ticket prices

  • $2 for adults; $1 for youth
  • Free for seniors and children under five years old
    • Exact change required at dock, or tickets can be purchased at the following locations:
      • Anvil Centre
      • Queensborough Community Centre
      • Tre Galli Gelato Caffé (River Market)

Departure and arrival information

Departure times are approximately every 20 minutes. The ferry holds 40 passengers and can accommodate bicycles and pets.

On the New West side, the dock is located below the Inn at the Quay near the River Market.

At Queensborough, the dock is located at the Port Royal public dock.

The first sailing from Port Royal will depart at 9:10 a.m. with departures every 20 minutes and the last sailing will leave Port Royal at 6:50 p.m. (no sailings at 10:50 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 1:50 p.m. or 4:50 p.m.)

Potential for permanent ferry service

New Westminster Mayor Jonathan Cote says the Q to Q ferry service will help the city better understand the potential for a future permanent connection between Queensborough and downtown New Westminster.

Usage statistics will be collected and survey data gathered during the demonstration period.

“As part of our riverfront vision, we are excited about connecting our riverfront communities and amenities,” said Cote.

The service connects the high-density residential community in Queensborough to a number of destinations in downtown New Westminster including the River Market, Westminster Pier Park, Anvil Centre, SkyTrain, and other transit services.

Residents and visitors will also benefit from enhanced access to Queensborough’s businesses and scenic riverfront trails.
