BC Hydro is proposing a new cycling and walking bridge across the Grandview Cut as part of a new transmission line project from Coquitlam to Mount Pleasant.
The Metro North Transmission line project will allow the power utility to meet increased demand as well as improve reliability.
An additional 230 kilovolt cable will be run underground through East Vancouver to a substation in Mount Pleasant, as BC Hydro does not have overhead right-of-way within the city of Vancouver.
The cable will be routed along East 8th Avenue, across the Grandview Cut, and west along East 7th, then East 6th Avenue to the substation.
In order to cross the Grandview Cut, BC Hydro is proposing a pedestrian and cycling bridge from North Grandview Highway to East 6th Avenue at McLean Drive.
The bridge will house the transmission line, as well as improve connections for those using the Central Valley Greenway.
BC Hydro will hold an open house on the northeast corner of Woodland Drive and N. Grandview Highway to get feedback on the project and its design.
Needed, but I hope there will be some innovation on the design.
