Walk by the Shangri-La hotel and residences on West Georgia Street and you’d be forgiven for thinking maintenance of the grounds had taken a turn for the worst.
An eclectic art installation by the Vancouver Art Gallery has repurposed items from metro Vancouver landfills and re-use stores into a unique outdoor exhibit.
The installation, Salvage, is by New Delhi-based artist Asim Waqif, and it’s a striking contrast to the luxury hotel it sits next to.
The highlight of the installation is a small interior area, akin to what you might find inside an old garage, with vintage cans and jars, knick knacks and an old electric piano.
Doors, signs, and various bric-a-brac made of the exterior of the installation.
Salvage can be seen in person, free of charge on the plaza outside the Shangri-La hotel at West Georgia and Thurlow, through 2018.
