A lighting installation commissioned by Polygon as part of their Promenade development in North Vancouver has been named a CODAaward finalist.
The public art, titled Sea Change, was designed by Jill Anholt Studio, with metal fabrication by Richard Thacker Works.
The installation is installed alongside the Lonsdale Quay transit exchange and Sea Bus terminal, and is interactive. When the area is unoccupied, the concrete wall is lit by soothing turquoise colours that slowly shift — but when a pedestrian or cyclist enters the area, a wave of intense blue or green light is triggered, rippling across the walls.
The effect is created by a series of LED lights that reflect off textured, mirror-polished stainless steel panels, located at specific angles.

The installation, Sea Change, was recently honoured with an IES award (Illuminating Engineering Society) for 2021. It is a Top 100 finalist for a CODAaward, given to those who successfully integrate commissioned art into interior, architectural, or public spaces. Voting for the awards is open until June 30, 2021.
