If you haven’t been on Davie Street near English Bay in a while, be prepared for an impressive transformation.
Where a Safeway store and rundown strip of retail once stood is now the location of three new rental apartment towers, one by Reliance Properties and two by Westbank.
The Safeway grocery store is coming back too, as well as a Scotiabank branch and a BC Liquor Store that was previously on the block.
The Reliance tower, known as 1188 Bidwell, includes 108 rental apartments in a 22-storey tower. The building includes a rooftop “skydeck” for residents, and ground floor retail spaces. The project is move-in ready and rents for apartments start in the mid $2,000s.
Next door, Westbank and Crombie REIT are nearing completion on a two-tower rental apartment development. The two rental towers include 330 units and a 44,000 sq ft. Safeway store. The estimated project cost is $180 million. Completion should be later this year.
