Have your say on the Dunsmuir Connection, Vancouver’s answer to the High Line

The design process for the Dunsmuir Connection — a new pedestrian and cycling connection that will replace the Dunsmuir viaduct — is underway, with the City of Vancouver seeking public input.

The connection will bridge the 15m elevation difference between Dunsmuir Street at the Stadium SkyTrain station and the new road network in False Creek, once the viaducts are demolished.

It will also allow cyclists to travel from the Union-Adanac bike route into downtown Vancouver, as the viaduct currently allows.

Along with pedestrian and cycling facilities, the new Dunsmuir Connection will include seating areas, lighting and landscaping, places to take in the view of the city and False Creek, and a “park like experience.” The concept is inspired by the High Line in New York City.

Concepts for the Dunsmuir Connection will be presented to the public this winter, with a preferred design identified by spring 2020.

Construction on the new connection is expected to begin in 2021.
