Facelift on the way for aging Royal Centre at West Georgia & Burrard

A major update is in the works for the lower levels of the Royal Centre shopping centre and office complex at West Georgia and Burrard Street.

A development application has been filed to demolish and replace the existing RBC branch with a five-storey, mixed-use building with retail on the ground floor and four floors of office space above.

The existing bank branch will be replaced as part of the redevelopment, and a new canopy will be added along West Georgia Street in front of the 37-storey RBC Tower. A two-storey restaurant will front onto West Georgia Street, located under the new canopy. Renderings show a new entrance for Royal Centre and the Burrard SkyTrain station on the West Georgia frontage.

The redevelopment, tentatively called RBC Place, was designed by Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership, and will be developed by PCI Developments.

A new flagship Hermès boutique is preparing to open its doors across the street, on the southwest corner of West Georgia and Burrard, as the Alberni Street luxury retail district continues to expand.
