Seattle-based outfitter Filson is set to open their first store in Canada this Spring, at 47 Water Street in Gastown.
The company is best known for their leather-trimmed canvas bags, as well as a variety of clothing and accessories for men and women. All of the company’s products are made in the U.S.
Filson was founded in 1897 to supply prospectors passing through Seattle on their way to the Klondike Gold Rush, so it’s fitting their first Canadian location will open in historic Gastown.
“Finally, after 120 years, we’re opening retail stores in Canada. We’re excited to share our love for the outdoors and Pacific Northwest roots with all Canadians who share the same values,” said Steve Bock, CEO of Filson. “The tactile experience is the best way for us to show the quality, craftsmanship and durability that’s sewn into every Filson item.”
The Vancouver store will be followed by the opening of a second store on Queen Street West in Toronto. Both stores will incorporate local materials, including custom furniture built from local salvaged wood, as well as iron beams and wooden floors.
In addition to 11 retail stores in the U.S. and U.K., the company also operates two outlet stores, one of which is located in Burlington, Washington.
