New owner, new plans for Coal Harbour property

Plan for 1650 Alberni flips from rental to luxury condos

A new proposal is being floated for a site on Alberni Street in Coal Harbour that previously sought a rezoning from the city for a 42-storey secured market rental tower.

In 2016, Hollyburn Properties applied to rezone the property at 1650 Alberni Street to build a slender tower containing 276 units of secured market rental housing.

Two years later, in 2018, Hollyburn decided to sell the property to Landa Global for an undisclosed amount.

Landa Global is now looking to build a luxury condominium tower on the site, with 172 units.

The upcoming tower is designed by SOM (Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP) Architects of Chicago, and estimated completion of the tower is slated for 2025. Landa Global is expected to seek a rezoning for the site in the coming weeks.

The prominent firm is responsible for iconic buildings like the Burj Khalifa and the One World Trade Centre, also known as the Freedom Tower.

The Vancouver project will be “one of downtown Vancouver’s tallest luxury residential towers,” according to Landa Global, although the exact height and number of stories has not yet been revealed.

Landa Global is also behind a luxury condo tower currently pre-selling at Denman and Alberni in the West End, and is one of the partners in the twin towers planned for 1444 Alberni Street, which will be the largest Passive House building in the world once complete.
