A development application has been filed for the new Alliance Française on Cambie Street, with construction expected to start later this year.
The design, by McFarland Marceau Architects, is for a four-storey, 28,729 sq ft. building with the French cultural centre (Alliance Française), artist studio and restaurant uses.
There will be one level of underground parking with 30 spaces.
Alliance Française is one of Vancouver’s oldest nonprofit organizations, founded in 1904, and has been operating at its Cambie location since the 1960s.
The development site is the current location of the French cultural centre, located in the rapidly changing Cambie Corridor, and one block away from the massive redevelopment of Oakridge Centre.
The neighbouring site to the north (6137 Cambie Street) — currently a church — is in the development application process for a new seven-storey mixed-use building with a church, private childcare and for-profit affordable rental housing units over two levels of underground parking.
The neighbouring site to the south (6261 Cambie Street) — currently a parking lot for another church — has a new building under preliminary consideration for development.
