One of the world’s best-known street artists has put the finishing touches on a 1,200 sq ft. mural in Mount Pleasant.
Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel painted the mural, Canada Secret Mountains, on the wall of a building at 325 West 4th Avenue, owned by Vancouver-based developer PortLiving .
San Miguel says he was inspired by the wildlife of B.C. and the west coast, and his personal experience.
He says the mural is actually one of his smaller works, and took two days to complete.
“Usually it takes four to seven days for bigger murals. I’ve heard it rains quite a bit here and I hope that this piece of art will help that,” said San Miguel.

The collaboration came about after PortLiving CEO Tobi Reyes shared his vision of making Vancouver a hub for urban art.
“We quickly saw how intriguing and fascinating San Miguel’s vision would add to Vancouver’s urban landscape,” said Reyes.
He hopes the mural will bring new energy to Mount Pleasant, as well as inspire creative new approaches to building community.
“We hope that the mural allows people to reflect on their city, the beauty of its diversity and how the smallest corners and sidewalks all contribute to make our city one of the world’s best.”
