Education City coming to No. 3 and Bridgeport in Richmond

An “education city” — billed as the first of its kind in Canada — is proposed for a parcel of land at No. 3 and Bridgeport in Richmond.

Plans for the education campus originated during a 2016 visit of a delegation from Guangdong, China, hosted by the former BC Liberal provincial government. Guangzhou Qin Feng Education Investment Co. Ltd. signed a US $10-million investment deal with New Continental Developments Inc. to build the “education city.”

The development will include restaurants, coffee shops, approximately 400 accommodation units, amenity services and an office tower for anchor tenants, including public and private schools and education agents providing professional services for students.

The City of Richmond asked for free, two-zone transit passes to be provided to all students and staff in perpetuity, as a condition of the rezoning. A shuttle bus between YVR and the education city was also required, as well as car share and EV charging stations.

The development will constructed in two phases and is aiming for LEED Silver equivalency.
