SoulCycle opens in Yaletown; first Vancouver studio of spin chain

Spin fans rejoice. SoulCycle’s first Vancouver location — “SOUL YLTN” — has opened in Yaletown at 1128 Mainland Street.

The Yaletown location features a 57-bike studio with men’s and women’s locker rooms, showers and bathrooms. There is also a lifestyle boutique selling SoulCycle‘s original clothing collections.

The indoor cycling classes combine spinning, hand weights, choreography and upbeat music in a candlelit room, making riders feel like they are partying in a healthy nightclub.

SoulCycle says the dark, non-intimidating rooms allow riders to “lose themselves” in the workout. Over 16,000 riders take a class in a SoulCycle studio everyday.

Each class ranges from 45 to 90 minutes. The first class is priced at $20, and subsequent classes are $30 each. Pricing is slightly higher than local competitor, Ride Cycle Club, which charges $26 per class.

No cell phones or cameras are allowed inside the spin studio, but we did manage to snap a few pics of the change rooms, showers and bathrooms, which are bright and well-stocked.

The New York-based indoor cycling studio was founded in 2006, and over 80 locations across the U.S., and two in Toronto (King and Yorkville). It is owned by Equinox Fitness, which recently opened its first Vancouver fitness club on West Georgia Street, adjacent to the Trump Tower International Hotel and Tower Vancouver.

SoulCycle CEO Melanie Whelan told BNN that prices at the company’s Canadian locations are slightly higher, but it’s based on what the market can bear.

She added that the Toronto and Vancouver locations also have new bikes not yet available at U.S. SoulCycle locations.

The company plans to open between 12 to 15 new locations in the U.S. and Canada per year. For more information, visit soul-cycle.com
