Vertical ascent of Vancouver House by Bjarke Ingels continues

Vancouver House, designed by world-renowned Danish architect Bjarke Ingels and developed by Westbank, continues to transform the skyline as it continues its vertical ascent.

The 59-storey, 151-metre tower is being constructed next to the Granville Street bridge, and will contain 407 condominiums and a 10-storey podium with retail space and rental apartments.

The tower is narrow at its base, with the floor plate becoming wider with each additional floor, cantilevering over the bridge. The boxes framing each residential unit are covered in protective film for construction, but have a light grey “stainless steel” exterior with a copper-coloured interior.

The development also includes two smaller buildings constructed in between the bridge on and off-ramps, with retail and office space. The space under the bridge will be transformed into a pedestrian mall, with space for patio seating, public art and food vendors.

The development is slated for completion in 2019.
