WeWork to open in Hootsuite tech campus in Mount Pleasant

Westbank has announced WeWork will occupy 43,000 sq ft. at 2015 Main Street in Mount Pleasant, the company’s fifth location in Vancouver.

The shared workspace provider will occupy two floors of the renovated building, and is scheduled to open in February 2019.

The announcement is part of Westbank’s redevelopment of the block bound by East 4th Avenue, Main Street, East 5th Avenue and Quebec Street.

The developer has partnered with Hootsuite in the redevelopment, and the social media giant will take up a significant portion of office space.

The “Main Alley campus” will include renovations to two existing buildings on site (including the new home of WeWork), and three new buildings.

Completion of the first new building, M2, at East 4th Avenue and Quebec Street is slated for late 2020. The 8-storey, mixed-use building will be comprised of:

  • 28,158 sq ft. industrial space
  • 56,317 sq ft. digital industry use
  • 56,316 sq ft. general office space
  • five levels of underground parking with 394 parking stalls
  • bicycle parking with lockers

The new campus was designed by Gregory Henriquez of Henriquez Partners Architects.

It will be a mixed-use campus catering to tech companies and include:

  • flexible workspaces
  • large, open indoor and outdoor areas
  • roof terraces
  • incubator pods
  • retail spaces
  • district energy system

The existing alley running parallel to Main Street will become a new pedestrian-oriented through fare running through the campus, and Westbank hopes the alley will continue to be part of the annual Vancouver Mural Festival.

Westbank, WeWork both working with Bjarke Ingels

WeWork announced earlier this month that Bjarke Ingels — the Danish architect behind Westbank’s Vancouver House tower — would become WeWork’s chief architect.

The Bjarke Ingels Group’s (BIG) is also working with Westbank on TELUS Sky in Calgary and King Street West in Toronto.
